Introduction

We are seeking a Lead Product Designer to join our BMH – Bulk Material Handling Equipment team. We are looking for an accomplished Lead Product Designer to take a central role in advancing our aftermarket product portfolio within the SVS GBP BMH Product Engineering team. This portfolio includes critical equipment such as Apron Feeders, Belt Feeders, Rotary Car Dumpers, Conveyor Belts, Bucketwheel Stacker Reclaimers, and more. In this role, you will lead a team of designers, oversee complex design projects, and provide strategic direction for the development of innovative solutions. Your expertise will be crucial in supporting global design initiatives, managing upgrades and modifications, driving research and development (R&D) efforts, and ensuring swift and effective responses during equipment breakdowns and repairs. Your role plays a crucial part to contribute to our business.

In this position, you will report to Sr Manager, Engineering.

This position is mainly located in Sorocaba/SP.

You will join a team of SVS GBP Business Line for Bulk Materials Handling (BMH) dedicated to develop mining equipment designs.

What You’ll Do

  • Design Leadership: Lead the design and development of structural, mechanical systems and components for bulk material handling equipment. Ensure that all designs meet rigorous performance, safety, and quality standards. Oversee the entire design process, from concept through execution, managing multiple design projects to deliver high-quality outcomes on time and within budget.
  • R&D Leadership: Champion research and development design initiatives, driving the creation of groundbreaking products and technologies that will set new benchmarks in the industry. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to bring innovative solutions from concept to market, ensuring that our products remain at the cutting edge of the mining sector.
  • Strategic Design Direction: Set the strategic direction for product design within the BMH division, identifying opportunities for innovation and ensuring that our design practices are at the cutting edge of industry standards. Work closely with cross-functional teams to translate market needs into innovative product designs that meet customer requirements.
  • Aftermarket Innovation: Lead the design efforts for upgrades, modifications, and repairs to extend the life and enhance the performance of existing equipment. Collaborate with the global GBP Engineering team to deliver Engineer-to-Order (ETO) solutions that meet the specific needs of our clients.
  • Field Service Collaboration: Provide high-level design and technical support during equipment breakdowns, working closely with the Field Service Team to ensure quick diagnosis and resolution of issues, minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment efficiency.
  • Global Team Collaboration: Work closely with a diverse, international team of engineers and designers, ensuring that design practices and standards are consistently applied across regions. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the global team.
  • Technical Expertise & Mentorship: Serve as the technical authority in the BMH Product Design team, offering advanced guidance on complex design challenges. Mentor and develop junior designers, ensuring a pipeline of talent and expertise within the team.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all design documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and compliant with industry standards and regulations. Implement best practices for documentation and design quality assurance within the team.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to continuously improve design processes, methodologies, and tools, driving efficiency and innovation across the department.

Who You Are

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Technology degree in Mechanical or Structural Design, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on bulk material handling equipment in the mining industry.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD and Inventor), with deep knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Experience with advanced solid modeling techniques and design optimization.
  • Industry Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of the design, operation, and maintenance of equipment such as Apron Feeders, Belt Feeders, Rotary Car Dumpers, and Bucketwheel Stacker Reclaimers.
  • Global Experience: Proven experience working in a global environment, with the ability to lead and collaborate effectively across different cultures and regions.
  • Communication & Influence: Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to a range of stakeholders, including non-technical audiences. Proficiency in Portuguese is required; additional languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support global projects and initiatives (up to 20%).
